This is now my go-to Christmas Cookie Recipe! The addition of sour cream makes these cookies a bit moister than traditional sugar cookies. Before Baking, top with nuts, sprinkles, or chocolate chips…the possibilities are endless! Or decorate with your favorite buttercream or royal icing once cooled out of the oven.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 stick unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (full fat) room temperature
  • 2 large eggs well beaten, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Prepare a large cookie sheet by spraying with cooking spray or lining with parchment paper.
  • Sift together flour and baking soda, set aside.
  • With a stand or handheld mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, approximately 1-2 minutes. 
  • Add in eggs, mix well. Next add in sour cream, flour, baking soda and vanilla extract. 
  •  Continue mixing until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Chill dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, then roll out.

  • Bake cookies for 11-13 minutes or until edges become set and just lightly browned. Cool completely on cooling rack before serving.

Notes

You can top cookies with chopped nuts, chocolate morsels, or sprinkles prior to baking.
